WONDER CALLED MOTHER
Poem by Bharat P. Bedi
In my Mother’s eyes,
I am still a child,
my age is of no meaning to her,
for her my age is just a number,
I am nearing 66 years of age,
my stature has no value to her,
steadily I have progressed in life,
now I am a grandfather,
but for her I am still her child,
whenever we meet,
she dotes on me,
she takes care to feed
my childhood likes, she
shuns what I used to dislike,
she pampers me like
i am still a small child,
her child is a child for her,
till the time she is here,
I think it is true to all Mothers,
their motherly instinct multiplies,
on the birth of grand & great grandchild;
We children may drift away,
when umbilical cord is cut,
forgetting our obligations,
shunning our responsibilities,
but parents, especially mother,
never shirks from her duties,
emotional attachment remains,
protecting nourishing nurturing
grooming caring loving adoring,
will always be at heart’s core,
mother is always a mother,
motherly sentiments remain intact,
from the life of a woman,
nobody can ease out a mother,
we may move away in our life,
but in pain and crisis time,
invariably we call out Maa-Mother,
than on Almighty God.
