GROWING UP IN LIFE
Poem by Bharat P. Bedi
My grandson is growing up,
from lying on his back,
looking up at the world,
to struggling to see the sides,
rolling over on his stomach,
to holding his neck,
to have a peek around,
enjoying the new experience
of sliding after flipping sides,
starting to move forward,
crawling on his knees,
gaining confidence of strength,
enthusiastically trying to reach,
everything lying around,
gleefully grips to hold,
proudly holding aloft,
the object of his joy,
for us to see and applaud;
My grandson is growing up,
to stand on his feet,
now holding on to things,
moving sideways, gripping
to objects to balance self,
willing to do more,
feeding strong urge,
but cautious to hold on,
to stable moorings,
which anchor growth,
in one year, he has achieved
what many of us in our lifetime,
still struggle to manage,
to stand on our own feet,
while holding on to bearings,
of age-old customs traditions;
My grandson is growing up,
today is his first birthday,
this year has been a
life lesson for all of us,
experiencing God’s ways
of guiding life thru Karma,
growing up has been
tuned to perfect precision,
as if body is programmed,
to automatically progress,
from one to other stage,
in a systematic order of
pre-determined time frame,
needing some efforts from us,
to feed Karma’s play,
for growing up in life.
