AM I RELIGIOUS

Poem by Bharat P. Bedi

I am religious,

I pray religiously,

for me and my family,

wasting no time,

praying for others,

am I religious; 

I am religious,

I hear preaching,

I hear discourses,

But religiously practice,

not preached,

but what suits me,

am I religious; 

I am religious,

I devote time,

for sermons of love

piety and charity,

in routine life,

practicing is a rarity,

am I religious; 

I am religious,

I relate to sympathy,

I feel for others misery,

my thoughts are inclined, 

I feel empathy,

but don’t go

out of the way,

spare time,

have no time,

to help needy,

am I religious; 

I am religious,

engrossed in work,

to make ends meet,

I strive hard,

religiously walking

a straight path,

breaking no heart,

not hurting sentiment,

am I religious; 

I am religious,

I crave I do,

without much ado,

my duties my chores,

devotedly sincerely

not troubling harming others,

religiously I follow,

humane religion to the core,

praying that religiously,

I am religious.
