Our
life starts shakily trying to firm up our faculties & ends shakily trying
to steady the weakening faculties. Life starts & ends on the same note of
shaky faculties. In between there is a period of moulding & firming up of faculties.
Our
life is symbolic of reverse ‘U’ or like a U turn. If we introspect from our conception
or our birth we will be able to understand the simple basics of Life. We start
from Growing to Stabilising to Reaping to Degenerating. Our journey of life has
broadly 4 phases which will explain the U turn theory.

1. From Conception to Infancy
to Early Childhood ( upto 8 years):
In this phase we are like raw clay in the hands of a potter. This is the phase
of life where we are in the growth period. Our body attributes are formed but
they need assistance from others to get acclimatized & perform on its own.
Our nervous system, brain, muscles, bones & sense organs are still in
formative stage, malleable & growing. To perform we need support system.
2. Late Childhood to
Adolescence to Teenage to Early Adulthood (above 8 years to 25 years): This is the phase when raw clay
is moulded into a pot or a piece of art. This is the period in which our
faculties have stabilised but we are still growing in terms of body & mind.
Our senses, brain, muscles & bones are still firming up but they now have
the capacity to perform on their own. This is the most energetic period of life
& needs constant check & control from elders. This is the constructive
& moulding period of life. We have to see that the formative part of life’s
energy is routed & guided to a just path.

3. Adulthood to Early Middle
age to Early Active Old Age to onset of Senescence Stage ( above 25 years to 65
years:
This is the time when the moulded pot or
article is put in the burning harsh furnace of reality to firm up & be
capable to face challenges of life. This is the most crucial period of our
life. This is the period when all our faculties are fully developed &
geared to function optimally. This is the steady & firming up time of our
life since birth. From here we are on our own & to a great extent & be able to
decide our future course of life. We are capable of taking control of our
present life & planning the future of our life.
4..Senescence Stage/Old
Age to Degenerating Stage to Final Rest (65 years & above): This is the time when the pot or
article is near the end of utility & on the verge of breaking down. Nearing
last quarter or phase of life we slowly start to be in the grip of uncertainties.
Being retired, suffering ailments, losing strength & weakening faculties
add to dependency on others. As we age we start losing strength & control
over our other faculties. We also start losing our family members with whom we
have grown & were our support system. This is our journey of life. We
started being dependent on others & we end being dependent on others. Only
difference is that on birth family members would willingly & happily take care
but in old age we become a cause of everyone’s misery.
When life becomes brittle &
jaded it is better to bring it down gracefully before it crumbles from the
pedestal built with great effort. The pot we had moulded so lovingly has to be
disposed of when time comes. We have to willingly step down from the podium
which we had built for ourselves so that the trauma of our declining faculties
& importance is cushioned by accepting our condition.
